At Â鶹Éç, a variety of industrial vehicles are used regularly on campus. Â鶹Éç Industrial Vehicle Program is a combination of multiple smaller programs (Forklift, Scissor-Lift, Aerial-Lift, Backhoe, Skid-steer, etc.) This Program contains industry standards, OSHA regulations, and Â鶹Éç specific standards.

Anyone who operates (students, staff, contractors, etc.) an industrial vehicle on Â鶹Éç property will need to follow Â鶹Éç safety standards

SMU students or employees who want to use an industrial vehicle will need to receive authorized training from Â鶹Éç ORM. Training can be in-person or a combination of online and in-person training.

SMU Specific Safety Standards:

• All industrial vehicle lifts on campus require the operator to wear a fall protection harness.
• Aerial Lifts nor scissor lifts will be operated at height with winds over 25 mph.
• If traveling in any industrial vehicle, working in a high traffic area, or on the road, the area shall be blocked off or have dedicated flaggers or a pilot vehicle to ensure the safety of pedestrians and other vehicles.
• Industrial vehicles that have road vehicle lights or is a landscaping vehicle (lawnmowers, tractors, sprayers) do not need a pilot vehicle when operating on Â鶹Éç owned roads.
• No combustion engines may be operated inside a building without a method to exhaust contaminants and continues air monitoring.
• Only authorized Â鶹Éç employees may operate Â鶹Éç industrial vehicles.
• SMU contractors shall not use Â鶹Éç vehicles without prior approval from Â鶹Éç ORM.
